Integration of the DTT data service with Interactive Television through TVC+

Abstract

Interactivity is one of the main functionalities incorporated into digital television through its value-added services. Despite the advances that exist worldwide in this regard, only software and hardware is available in Cuba that manages and displays content in plain text, static, of little relevance and usefulness to end users. In this work the main functionalities offered by the new TVC+ technological platform proposed by the authors of this work to correct the identified problem are exposed. This platform facilitates the dynamic management of the contents that are transmitted, such as: conformation of contents from primary sources of RSS data, automatic changes of the structure and content from temporary events or actions that are carried out and the incorporation of televoting using the national telecommunications provider as a return channel. The results presented in this paper demonstrate some of these functionalities that are already included in the version of TVC+ deployed recently in the ICRT and have the endorsement of it. The architecture of the TVC+ software allows the gradual incorporation of the elements of interactivity, achieving its compatibility with current and future encoders. This aspect constitutes an important novelty that is presented in this work. The proposed solution allows the technological sovereignty of our country in this important area of knowledge with real future possibilities of exchange with other countries of the region.
